BattleGroup Bastogne Overview and Goals

This campaign is largely a tribute to Frank Chadick and the now defunct Games Designer's Workshop (GDW). Though we will fight this campaign using Blitzkreig Commander (BKC), it draws much of its inspiration from the "Bastogne" Campaign Module for Command Decision and from "Attack in the Ardennes" an excellent board game from GDW. I always have always loved the Battle of the Bulge, and now with BKC, 10mm minatures, and some great wargaming friends we can make playing the full campaign a reality!

4) An Operational Turn will occur every week of real time. 21 weeks to play the Campaign.

5) Play Multiple Smaller Battles in Each Turn – Constrained terrain and limited road approaches will compartmentalize the fighting. This will allow fights to be more easily coordinated.

6) The Primary “Unit” for the Campaign is a “Battlegroup” (Regiment, Combat Command, Kampfgroupe, etc). This is generally what you will fight with on the table top.

7) A Battlegroup consist of from one to four maneuver battalions.

8) All independent Companies will have their elements assigned to Battalions.

9) Recon Companies can operate independently.

10) The Operational Area will be divided into “Battlespace”.

11) All Battlespaces are represented on 4’ x 6’ tables for Tactical Battles.

12) The maximum number of units that can be deployed in any Battlespaces is four Battalion Size Units on each side.

13) Tactical Battles may be fought out using any WWII game system (Blitzkrieg Commander, Flames of War, Command Decision, Battlefront WWII, etc). Those in which the smallest “unit” is a platoon will work best as most battles will brigade size.

14) Losses will be tracked down to the Platoon Level.

15) Those battles not fought out and resolved within the real time week of the Operational Turn will be resolved by the coordinator using die rolls and appropriate modifiers for attacker/defender, terrain, and size of forces etc.

16) Allow hidden movement.
